About E-Vam Buddhist Institute in New York

One of the main challenges confronting us as Buddhism begins to take root in the West is how to prevent the pristine teachings from becoming diluted in our haste to modernize them. We at E-Vam Institute New York wish to preserve the original, authentic teachings of the Buddhist tradition while at the same time addressing the pressing issues of the contemporary Western world. We wish to contribute to this effort by approaching it from a three-tier system:

  • Interfaith/interdisciplinary dialogue to promote and foster understanding between and amongst the worlds great religions through the institution of dialogues, conferences, etcetera, as well as dialogues with Western secular disciplines such as brain science, consciousness research, psychology and philosophy
  • Intrafaith dialogue to promote and foster better relationships with the various schools of Buddhism—Tibetan, Theravada, Zen, Tantra, Mahayana—through conferences, dialogues and invitations to speakers from the respective traditions
  • Traditional dialogue to promote, foster and preserve the philosophy and practices of the Kagyu and Nyingma lineages of Tibetan Buddhism, with particular emphasis on the Kagyu tradition.
